Whether you are fond of shopping, sightseeing or just be seen, it might be worth going out and witness the activities lined up by the city this year.
Loads of fun awaits those who keenly anticipate when and where they are happening.
1. Christmas Bazaar.
There are several bazaars you might want to check out this December, including the Winter Wonderland Expo at the newly-built gym at University of Southeastern Philippines at Brgy Obrero on December 13 to 16 and the Grand Christmas and Trade Fair & Bazaar at the SMX Convention Center in Lanang on December 15 and 16. Marco Polo Hotel will also be having its annual Christmas Bazaar.
Mana Antique Shop Christmas display.
It has become tradition for Davaoenos to gather in front of Mana antique shop at JP Laurel Street to have their photos taken with the dazzling Christmas light decorations. The holiday display is usually launched during the first week of December and features a unique design every year. Tourists and locals alike should come and visit.
3. Kahayag sa Pasko.
The activity is actually a Christmas competition where participants feature their creativity by lighting up their shops and establishments for the season. Business owners, in particular, welcome Christmas by filling their shops with vibrant lights and attractive decors. The winner will receive a prize from the city mayor’s office.
TugSayAwit is a yearly event which features contestants from various parts of the country. Participants showcase unique dance moves and songs that will thrill and delight tourists. The performances also feature original Filipino clothing and accessories.
5. Handuraw sa Himaya.
This is another unique presentation which features native Filipino culture and performances. The nativity visual arts contest include special presentations from various groups in and out of Davao City.
6. Mall sales.
The biggest malls in the city namely Abreeza, SM Lanang Premier, SM City Ecoland and Gaisano Mall of Davao will also be featuring Christmas sales and promos in various periods of the month. Gaisano Mall, in particular, will have double-midnight sales every weekend (Friday and Saturday) this month. Shoppers can enjoy huge discounts from 10% to 80% off on selected items. Matina Town Square will also have a big sale from December 1 to 9 and December 17 to 23, 2012.
7. Metro Manila Film Festival.
Locals and outsiders gather in malls on Christmas Day to watch different locally made films. Tourists can appreciate and support the local film industry by viewing a movie or two during the holidays. Cinemas usually present local films for the entire week. The MMFF opens on December 25.
And that’s not even the half of what’s in store for Davaoenos this month! There are many other smaller events at various bars and hangouts that will certainly make the entire Christmas season as festive, despite the absence of fireworks. All that said, Davao City is one of the best places to be for the holidays.
