Davao City Welders to be Trained for Jobs Abroad

AFTER obtaining an International Standard Organization (ISO) certification, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) in Davao is set to upgrade the standards of future Davao City welders to be internationally recognized by American Welding Society (AWS).

Tesda Director General Joel Villanueva has announced that Dabawenyos will be the first trainees of the first free Certified Welding Inspector Preparatory Examination Seminar (AWS-CWI) set on May 13-23.

This is in compliance with the memorandum agreement signed by Tesda and Middle East Industrial Training Institute in the United Arab Emirates (MEITI-UAE) in October last year.

MEITI-UAE is accredited by the American Welding Society as a certified welding fabricator, educational institution member and an international agent for AWS certification.

Both agreed to upgrade the skills of Filipino engineers, welders, technicians, and other graduates of technical-vocational education and training programs.

To help the future welders, MEITI-UAE provided P20 million worth of training equipment. They also offered their AWS module, curriculum and trainers to Tesda for the training. It will also provide scholarship and employment assistance to its beneficiaries.
