After confirming Davao City as among its first destinations in its maiden flights in the Philippines, it is possible the city could get a flight connection with Malaysia’s Kota Kinabalu.
Davao City Investment Promotion Center, the city’s government investment office and the tourism board of Sabah, Malaysia led by Deputy General Manager Gordon Yapp with budget airline Air Asia for the proposed air route.
The idea makes sense since Davao City is the premier city in Mindanao and Kota Kinabalu is a major tourism and business destination in Sabah. Air Asia now flies to Kota Kinabalu and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, and would fly its first regular commercial flight to Davao City on March 28. Air Asia Philippines has its hub in Clark.
The relatively new Davao International Airport is currently underutilized, according to Philippine aeronautics officials. It will be more worthy of its name once more international flights will be added soon.
