THE Davao City Government officially announced Tuesday that the ad board has decided to award to Davao City the contract for the hosting of the largest advertising congress (AdCon) in the country next year.
The announcement came after the actual and final presentation of Davao City’s bid to host the event in Manila last Monday.
Arturo Boncato Jr., regional director of the Department of Tourism (DOT), said he was notified by Egay Navalta, co-chair of ad congress executive committee, a day after the city’s final presentation in Makati City last Monday.
“We are deeply elated and excited of the prospect to host the biggest group of creative people in the Philippines,” Boncato said.
Among the competing local government units (LGUs) and event complexes that bided for the same hosting contract include Baguio City, Boracay, Subic, and Camarines Sur.
Camarines Sur, however, backed out during the final presentation.
“Their decision to choose Davao is a big vote of confidence in our capacity and capability in being a serious meetings, incentives, conferences and events (Mice) destination,” Boncato added.
On top of the city’s readiness to host the event, in terms of facilities and room capacity, Boncato said one of the factors that made the ad board award the hosting contract to Davao is its serious appeal to help and build the Mindanao brand.
The city’s bid to host Ad Congress 2013 is actually its fourth attempt, but it always failed in terms of capacity to host such a big convention, venue-wise. This is the first time the AdCon will be held in Mindanao.
