DAVAO Wisdom Academy’s Chino Tancontian bagged two gold medals as the three-member Davao City team hauled a total of six medals in the 2012 Jagsport Invitational Tournament held recently in Singapore.
Tancontian topped the wrestling 13 years old 45 kilogram and below category and the judo 13-year-old 45 kgs. event.
His elder sister, Sydney, clinched silvers in judo (13 years old mixed middleweight -63 kgs. and 16 year-old women’s heavyweight cadets -75 kg) and a bronze in submission grappling (adult women’s middleweight below 25 years old).
Sydney was also hailed as most outstanding player. She brought home a crystal trophy and an Adidas leather bag for her feat.
Ateneo de Davao University’s Benz Binoya added a bronze in wrestling (16 years old middleweight -63 kgs.).
Coach Paolo Tancontian, in a phone conversation yesterday, said he didn’t expect the team to win medals in wrestling have had only one month for their training on the said sport.
“Maayo ang gidula sa mga bata maski mao pa ni ang unang higayon nga midula sila abroad ug mao pa sab ang sugod sa ilang pagdula ug wrestling (The kids performed way beyond expectations despite competing abroad and engaging in wrestling for the very first time),” Paolo said.
